Fall Maintenance Tips For Your Custom Home
Fall is here already in Victoria BC! That means it’s unfortunately time to prepare your custom home for the rest of fall and winter. Luckily, your custom dream home can stay in great condition for years to come with only a little bit of fall maintenance. Below are some things that we recommend checking before winter sets in.
Check Around
This time of year is the perfect time to check around the exterior of your custom home in preparation for winter. As you take a look around, check your exterior pipes, gutters, and downspouts for leaks and debris. Clogged gutters can cause significant damage to your home as water will not be able to drain properly, and this means it could drain towards your home’s foundation. If you do encounter a clog, be sure to clear the debris fully. If you find a small leak, try fixing it with a small amount of caulking. Additionally, be sure to drain your outside faucets to stop your exterior pipes from freezing. This will help protect your custom home from water damage come spring!
During your exterior check, be sure to check any lighting or light bulbs that you have outside in order to prepare them for the darker winter days. Maybe this is even a great time to put up your Christmas lights if you have them! Also, be sure to check out all the great Christmas lights throughout Victoria with this map.
Indoor Check
Once you are done your exterior check, head indoors to take a look at your home’s HVAC system. This is one of the most important systems during the winter as it keeps your home toasty warm on those cold winter nights. You should ideally check your HVAC system twice a year (once in the spring and once in the fall) in order to make sure that the filters are clean and the system is running efficiently. Checking to make sure your HVAC system is running smoothly also helps you save money on your energy bill!
